King Shaka International Airport in Durban

On the 30th April 2010, the current Durban Airport located to the south of the city will process its last flight and the next morning all planes will fly from the new Durban International airport situated on the North Coast, at La Mercy.

The plan for the seamless handover from old airport to new is being carefully managed by Airports Company South Africa (ACSA). 2010 visitors will have their first glimpse of Durban from a spacious, air conditioned complex with separate Arrival and Departure terminals. A range of relaxation areas, shops, restaurants and entertainment options will keep passengers occupied while waiting for flights.

Convenient hotels and conference centres also form part of the development which is minutes from the beaches and resorts of Durban’s North Coast.

This is a Billion Rand development and is a far cry from the current Durban International Airport. It will be three times the size of the current airport and, with the longer runways and larger terminals, will be able to service the largest aircraft in the world - meaning more direct international flights to and from Durban.

This means Durban and KwaZulu Natal will become that much more accessible and with so much to see and do in the area, it is about time!
