6 Day Kruger Park Walking Safari

Arrive into Johannesburg International Airport. On arrival guests will be met by an African Sands Representative. 

Walk through to where your charter flight departs from. 

Board your charter flight from Johannesburg to Rhino Post Safari Lodge- Skukuza Airport (approx. 1 hour 20 minutes flying time)

On arrival at the airstrip, you will be met by a guide from Rhino Walking Safaris who will transfer you to the Rhino Post Safari Lodge in an open game viewing vehicle (approx. 25 minutes’ drive through the Kruger National Park from the airstrip).  Set on the banks of the Mutlumuvi riverbed is the luxurious “base” lodge.  Rhino Post Safari Lodge is an elegant 16 bed lodge from where you embark on twice daily game drives.  As well as making use of the private concession roads, the lodge have exclusive use of some of the Kruger National Park’s public roads for evening game drives, well after gate closing times (sunset), ensuring guests an unforgettable experience!

Check into your room and time to freshen up.  

A typical day would include an early start, a cup of fresh coffee or tea, after which guests set out on their game drive.  Guides at the lodge meet the stringent requirements of the South African National Parks and senior guides hold the highest guiding qualifications possible in South Africa, to ensure that your encounters with the African wilderness are exciting, informative and safe.  

In the late afternoon after a delicious high tea, you can enjoy an evening game drive, winding down with Sundowners, watching an African sunset and spotting nocturnal animals in the Park.
 
Rhino Post Safari Lodge also offers golfers outings to Skukuza Golf course – The Kruger National Park has a unique 9-hole golf course (18 tees) near Skukuza Rest Camp.  Built in 1972, the course is unfenced and open to the reserve for a wild round of golf.  Prior arrangements are necessary.

Transfer from Rhino Post Safari Lodge to Plains Camp

Plains Camp has four luxury African explorer-style tents with en-suite (hot running water) and all the comforts of home, plus the African Wilderness on your doorstep.  Built in authentic pioneer tradition it has the serenity of a 19th century naturalists retreat, nestled in an Acacia Knobthorn thicket and overlooking the spectacular Timbitene plain and waterhole. An Africana book collection and antique treasures are reminiscent of a golden era.

A generator and a back-up battery system power overhead fans and 24 hour lighting. The generator system can be used to re-charge camera batteries at specific times.  There is also a Communal Lounge and Dining Area with an outside fireplace.

Activities here include fantastic walking trails to get close to nature. It is a true learning experience and one not to be missed.

After an introductory brief on the “do’s” and “don’ts” of bush walking safaris, your guide will structure the walking trail taking into account the fitness level of the group and any special requests.  Departures are before breakfast and again in the late afternoon to avoid the midday heat, with the average walk being between three and four hours. It is generally a slow pace, so that the wild surrounds and nature can be enjoyed. Walks may be lengthened or shortened depending on the group’s desires and fitness levels.

Your guides will share their wealth of bush culture, the identification of animals, trees, grasses, insects, birds and the medicinal uses of plants, local folklore and basic tracking and survival skills.  Nothing is predictable in the bush; therefore each safari offers a potentially new experience.

Transfer back to Rhino Post Safari Lodge and then onto Skukuza Airport
