This is the perfect guided tour that allows you to explore South Africa as part of a group. The tour departs from Durban to Johannesburg via Shakaland and Swaziland. Enjoy learning more about the Zulu history and culture, boat cruise in St Lucia, game viewing in both Hluhluwe and Kruger National Park and visiting many sites on the Panorama Route.

Itinerary

Day 1: Durban/ Shakaland

 

Transfer from Durban to Shakaland

 

Discover the tribal heart of Africa, its fascinating rhythms and way of life, at an exclusive bush Hotel deep in the heart of Zululand in KwaZulu Natal. Protea Hotel Shakaland is a truly unique South African Hotel, set in an authentic traditional Zulu village. Originally built as a film set for the epic saga's "ShakaZulu" and "the John Ross Story"

 

This traditional homestead or "Umuzi" offers an exhilarating South African bush experience, in traditional but luxurious beehive huts (ensuite), guests are able to re-live the excitement and romance of the times of Shaka, King of the Zulu's, in an authentic re-creation of the great kraal overlooking the Phobane Lake. During your stay at Protea Hotel Shakaland, you will be able to take in the traditions and customs of the local Zulu people.

Day 2: Shakaland / Hluhluwe

 

After breakfast enjoy an enriching experience affording a better understanding of the Zulu nation, its people and their intriguing customs. Highlights include the sight of assegai wielding warriors, sharing the fascinating secrets of the Sangomas and witnessing traditional customs such as tribal dancing, spear making and the beer-drinking ceremonies

 

Continue north towards St. Lucia, visit iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site (previously known as The Greater St. Lucia Wetlands Park). Enjoy a river cruise on the estuary and view prolific wetlands bird life, fish eagles, hippo and crocodiles. Enjoy a game drive in your closed vehicle through the Hluhluwe Game Reserve. Arrive at your Hotel late afternoon.

Day 3: Hluhluwe / Swaziland

 

Enjoy early morning game drive in your closed vehicle through the Hluhluwe Game Reserve.

After breakfast, enter the Kingdom of Swaziland and make your way to the Ngwenya Glass Factory. Finish the day with the arrival at your overnight destination Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary.

Day 4: Swaziland / Hazyview

Enjoy a first –hand glimpse into Swaziland’s rich cultural heritage by visiting the Esitjeni Umphakatsi, bordering Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, and experience an original interaction with the local people of this vibrant community (weather depending).

 

Leave Swaziland and re-enter South Africa.

 

After a short game drive through the world famous Kruger National Park you arrive at your destination late afternoon.

Day 5: Panorama Route/ Makalali

After breakfast you start exploring the breathtaking Panorama Route, featuring various waterfalls, God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Three Rondawels and the Blyde River Canyon. Arrive at your game lodge in time for afternoon tea before you start your evening game drive. Return to the lodge for a diverse array of eclectic cuisine.

Day 6: Panorama Route / Johannesburg

Early morning bush walk or game drive, where you will have the opportunity to learn about the smaller species of Africa’s animal kingdom.

 

After breakfast you depart to Johannesburg through the JG Strijdom Tunnel and marvel at the mountainous scenery.

 

Travel through the historic towns of Lydenburg and Dullstroom before arriving in Gauteng.

 

Drop off late afternoon at OR Tambo International Airport or at your hotel.
