Itinerary

Day 1 - 4: Wednesday - Saturday: Kruger National Park Safari

Arrive into Johannesburg International Airport. On arrival guests will be met by an African Sands Representative. 

 

Walk through to where your charter flight departs from. 

 

Board your charter flight from Johannesburg to Rhino Post Safari Lodge (approx. 1 hour 20 minutes flying time). 

 

On arrival at the airstrip, you will be met by a guide from Rhino Walking Safaris who will transfer you to the Rhino Post Safari Lodge in an open game viewing vehicle (approx. 25 minutes drive through the Kruger National Park from the airstrip).  Set on the banks of the Mutlumuvi riverbed is the luxurious “base” lodge.  From here guests can travel to Plains Camp for walking safaris, as well as overnighting under the stars at the unique “Sleep-outs Post”.  Rhino Post Safari Lodge is an elegant 16 bed lodge from where you embark on twice daily game drives.  As well as making use of the private concession roads, the lodge have exclusive use of some of the Kruger National Park’s public roads for evening game drives, well after gate closing times (sunset), ensuring guests an unforgettable experience! Check into your room and time to freshen up.  

 

A typical day would include an early start, a cup of fresh coffee or tea, after which guests set out on their game drive.  Guides at the lodge meet the stringent requirements of the South African National Parks and senior guides hold the highest guiding qualifications possible in South Africa, to ensure that your encounters with the African wilderness are exciting, informative and safe.  

In the late afternoon after a delicious high tea, you can enjoy an evening game drive, winding down with Sundowners, watching an African sunset and spotting nocturnal animals in the Park.
 
Rhino Post Safari Lodge also offers golfers outings to Skukuza Golf course – The Kruger National Park has a unique 9-hole golf course (18 tees) near Skukuza Rest Camp.  Built in 1972, the course is unfenced and open to the reserve for a wild round of golf.  Prior arrangements are necessary.

Day 5 – 6: Sunday & Monday: Thonga Beach Lodge

Enjoy an early morning game drive followed by a sumptuous breakfast at the lodge. 

 

Transfer to Skukuza Airport for your flight to Thonga Beach Lodge (flying time approximately 1 hour 15 minutes).

The flight departs between 12h00 and 12h30. 

 

Thonga Beach Lodge is set on the pristine shores of the Maputuland coast, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This 24-bed luxury lodge is the ideal place to discover one of the most unspoilt wilderness beaches left on the African continent. Mabibi is a magical place of coastal forests, grasslands, bush, shimmering lakes and exquisite sandy beaches. Day 7 – 8: Tuesday & Wednesday: Kosi Forest Lodge

Enjoy a hearty South African breakfast at your lodge. 

 

After breakfast, transfer by road to Kosi Forest Lodge. This route covers some of the most spectacular, unspoilt South African scenery imaginable.  Kosi Forest Lodge is a private lodge situated in the unspoilt wilderness that is part of the Isimangaliso Wetland Park, now internationally recognised as a World Heritage Site.

 

The 16-bed lodge offers comfortable accommodation, fine cuisine and caters for a host of estuarine, beach and wilderness activities. Explore this unique ecosystem by guided canoe, boat trip on the lakes, raffia forest walks or a day excursion to nearby coastal beaches.

 

Discover one of South Africa’s best ecotourist destinations. The highlight of many guests stay at Kosi Forest Lodge is the canoe trip on the Kosi Lakes.  Guests get the opportunity to canoe along the Sihadla channel and admire the magnificent Raffia Palms.  The bird life while canoeing is very rewarding.  Canoeing is always accompanied by a guide and is included in stays of one night.  No experience is required. Day 9: Thursday : Pretoria

After breakfast board your charter flight to Benoni Airfield.

 

On arrival at the airfield transfer to Pretoria and your luxurious boutique hotel Illyria House.

Day 10 – 11: Friday & Saturday: Rovos Rail

Spend a lazy morning relaxing at the boutique hotel, or go on a morning city tour of Pretoria. 

 

Transfer to Pretoria Train Station to board your luxury train – Rovos Rail. Train departs at 15h00 from Pretoria.  Experience the extravagant elegance of rail travel on the most luxurious train in the world. Travel the grasslands of the gold-rich Highveld to the haunting barrenness of the Great Karoo. Safari through the spectacular mountain ranges and scenic wine lands of the Cape. Your journey's end is Cape Town, the Mother City of South Africa, cradled by the imposing bulk of Table Mountain, Devil's Peak and Lions Head.

 
Highlights of the route include a visit to the historic village of Matjiesfontein. This authentic perfectly preserved Victorian Village, which was founded by Mr Logan as a refreshment stop in 1890, also boasts an impressive museum on the platform. A stop is also made in Kimberley providing an opportunity to enjoy a city tour and a visit to the Diamond Mine Museum and the world's largest man-made excavation, the Big Hole.

Day 12: Sunday: Cape Town

 

 

Spend the day on board the luxurious Rovos Rail 

 

18h00 arrive into Cape Town Train Station.  Meet with your African Sands representative and transfer to your hotel, the exclusive Cape Grace, located at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

Day 13: Monday: Cape Town

Meet with your local guide who will take you on a day excursion to Cape Point Nature Reserve.

Travel along the renowned Chapman’s Peak Drive, a spectacular route along the Atlantic Ocean cut into rigid mountain cliffs. Continue onto the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve ending at Cape Point. This point has traditionally been known to be the place where the stormy waters of the Atlantic meet the calming influence of the Indian Ocean (although they really meet at Cape Aghulas!). The reserve is home to a great diversity of Flora and several species of Fauna. Walk down the path to the old lighthouse for dramatic views! On the return, stop at Boulders Beach, which is home to a large colony of African “Jackass” Penguins, so called for the resemblance of their call to the bray of a donkey.

Day 14: Tuesday: Cape Town

Today, you will explore the world famous Cape Winelands, where stark Mountains create a remarkable contrast with lush vineyards to form a most remarkable display. The town of Franschhoek is set in a fertile valley where French settlers first made wine more than three hundred years ago. Visit some of the finest wineries in the valley where a great variety of reds like Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot and Pinot Noir as well as fine white wines like Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon can be enjoyed. Drive through the quaint towns of Stellenbosch and Paarl.

Day 15: Wednesday: Departure

After breakfast take a short drive to Table Mountain and embark on a cable car ride to the top of the mountain. Table Mountain is synonymous with Cape Town and is one of the world’s most iconic landmarks. Standing 1086m tall, the summit of the Mountain offers guests unsurpassed views of the city of Cape Town, Robben Island and the peninsula. Unique species of Fynbos are on display and the Table Mountain National Park is home to a few unique mammal species. This area is a World Heritage Site and is the smallest “Floral Kingdom” in the world, but has the largest variety of flora. After the descent from Table Mountain some time is devoted exploring South Africa's oldest city as we visit some notable landmarks and historic sights including the Castle and the Rhodes memorial.

 

At the end of the day, transfer to Cape Town Airport.  Complete formalities for your flight home.
