What is the closest living relative to an elephant?

A Dassie, or a Rock Hyrax, looks like a cross between a guinea pig and a rabbit, but its closest relative is, actually the Elephant. You, like me, might find this very hard to believe – the largest animal on land is related to a kind of “rabbitty” looking creature that doesn’t even have any sort of trunk! But they do share similarities of the feet and the teeth apparently and their skeleton structure is the same. Dassie’s feed on vegetation and you will be able to see them munching contentedly all over Table Mountain and its nature reserve and the Cape Peninsula.

So, if you are in South Africa doing a Safari, why not include viewing the elephants closest relative on your mammal spotting list.
